Kourtney Roy
Citéco — La Cité de l'Économie, Paris
The exhibition examines the paradoxes of global tourism and its ecological, human, and economic impacts through a dual artistic and scientific approach. The exhibition route presents the world of photographer Kourtney Roy while also offering the interpretation proposed by the Cité de l’Économie.
Kourtney Roy’s photographs, with their saturated colors and cinematic stagings, do not formulate any explicit economic discourse. All of them evoke travel, holidays, and tourism. In resonance, economic content sheds light on what these vacation scenes can reveal about globalized tourism: its spectacular growth since the 1960s, its major economic weight, its negative externalities on the environment and local populations, as well as inequalities in access to travel and the transformation of territories.
